I closed out my second week as a Houston Chronicle photographer. However, I didn’t want it to end because of all the stuff that was going on.

Friday was a busy day and the get-up-and-go continued. I got a call at 6:58 a.m. about an apartment fire. Luckily, the fire was 2.5 miles away from the house, so I got there in time to get some nice shots like these:

“I’ve been down before,” said Monique Kelly, who is seen with tears after her apartment burned completely in an apartment fire that started in an adjacent unit at the Carlisle Apartments in Southwest Houston on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, in Houston. “First Katrina. Now this,” said Kelly, who had moved to Houston after leaving Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina.( Julio Cortez / Chronicle )

The first photo had enough impact to be picked by the Editor-in-Chief to go on the front page and it ran like this:

My second A1 front page photo of the week. In all, I had three three days in which I had front page photos.

I had three photos on Tuesday in the B1 section that looked like this:

In all, I had five photos run on front pages this week, and it’s only my second week on the job. I’m pretty happy about that and I’m just glad I didn’t fall flat on my face when I got called to go cover these events.
